Run Silent, Run Deep

This is an interesting look inside the nuclear ballistic missile submarine system (from the UK). It talks about how these systems are controlled, who gives the instructions, and the sorts of men that man the "boomers". It's a sobering thought, but even in the modern world, we've got enough threats that this sort of 'Sword of Damocles' is probably a necessary evil to help us keep safe from those that might do us harm.

My heart also goes out to the 183+ victims of terrorism in Mumbai this last week. The sorts of animals who would use bombs, guns and grenades to intentionally target men, women and children who are unarmed, not members of the military, and who have done them no personal harm are hard to comprehend. Like rabid dogs, they should be euthanised as a favour to themselves and for the safety of society in general.
