Senators 2, Capitals 1 in Overtime!

64:20 of good hockey! If missed good opportunities counted, it should have been about 5-2 Senators. It was some good goaltending and some great play in the mid-ice area. The Senators probably spent 60-70% of their game in the Capital's end. They largely shutdown the Ovetchkin line. And the final goal was a 3-abreast play from the right winger (Winchester?) to Alfredson, to Fisher. It was a fast, beautiful set of passes and a good shot into the empty side of the net before a sliding goalie got there. Those 4 on 4 5-minute overtime periods are fun to watch.

Also, on the upside: They gave a lot of kudos to the Canadian Forces including an on-ice post game photo op. There were a lot of different CF members present.

One of the intermissions had a skills competition where Dads from the forces fired pucks to their kids and the kids slapped them at the net. Two teams from the Army, one from the Navy. Navy PO and his son won. Go Navy!

The other intermission had an adult CF hockey skills competition. Skate down the ice fast, pick up a puck, weave your way back around pylons, relay style. Army won handily, with Navy giving some decent competition. The Air force had a really weak skater at the end, but it was still good stuff.

A good night!
